The Manga...
In addition to the excellent Oh My Goddess! video
tapes, there is the Manga. This is what americans call comics. I'm not really
sure what the exact meaning of Manga is, but I know it has something to do with the
comics. Maybe it is just a still picture art. Well anyway, You really can't
stop with the tapes. Even thought they provide closure on the series quite well,
there's just so much more waiting in the Manga. For example...In one issue Skuld has
a rivaly with Megumi. In another Keiichi is visited by an exorcist who has a crush
on him, making Belldandy jealous, and in yet another, Keiichi accidently summons another
goddess, Peorth. Not to meantion the hordes of characters you don't see in the
manga: Mara, Senbei, Troubadour, Kodama, Hikari, Senrigan, just to name a few.
If you
haven't seen the Manga yet, I highly recommend buying some; they are only $2.95 in the
U.S. Also, they are produced in "mini-series". e.g. A small series
would be called "The Devil in Miss Urd"; composed of 5 issues all together.
You don't have to worry about starting from the beginning of the Manga to get the
plot or understand it. Although the first time I read it I was confused from short
description of each charactor; you have to read two or so issues to understand that Fujishima used different drawings of the charactors in the
descriptions than are in the actual comicbook.
DarkHorse
Comics, Inc. publishes Oh My Goddess! in America. They have to translate
the Japanese version and also adjust the layout of the comic to fit their size books.
DarkHorse puts a great deal of work into OMG and it shows, fans love it
(myself included).
I'm not
trying to sell comics, but I urge any fan that hasn't seen the Manga yet to go to a comic
store and buy at least one issue. It's only 3 bucks...some Japanese series' cost a
lot more, and I think you'll agree it's worth reading over and over again.
